For the first time, we have a potentially habitable world close enough to actually study—and at just 10.7 light-years away, it's nearly within reach of our most ambitious telescopes.

Astronomers have confirmed a super-Earth in the habitable zone of GJ 887 — just 10.7 light-years away — making it the second-closest known habitable-zone planet after Proxima Centauri b, and one of the closest targets we could ever hope to characterise.
