The Flood Forecasting Division put the peak flow at Devghat at 5,850 cubic metres per second, which the Kathmandu water policy expert who assembled the station readings calls the size of flood that comes once every two to three years.
The 26 August flood that has now killed at least 1,114 people in Nepal reached the last river gauge on the Narayani at a peak of 6.57 metres, below the 7.3-metre warning level the government publishes for that station, and passed the end of the monitored river without crossing a threshold there
