Nature Immunology, Published online: 21 April 2026; doi:10.1038/s41590-026-02490-x How reactive oxygen species (ROS) contribute to NLRP3 inflammasome activity has been debated. Findings now show that cofilin-1 binds and inhibits NLRP3 activation — an interaction that ROS can disrupt to enable inflammasome assembly.
