Extended phases now exhibit diffusive behaviour while their critical counterparts become ballistic, reversing established expectations for energy movement within these materials. This anomalous transport arises from a one-dimensional Aubry, André, Harper model incorporating ‘nonreciprocity’, where criticality, typically associated with localisation, instead enhances conductivity. Wavepacket diffusion analysis reveals this shift is quantified by a transition to β=1 at the critical point, signalling faster propagation than previously understood.
