Akshay Java, M.S. '03, Ph.D. '08, computer science, has made a generous donation to launch the Computing for Social Good Award in the College of Engineering and Information Technology at UMBC. Two students—Rishav Gupta, a Ph.D. student in computer science, and ASM Mobarak Hossain, M.S. ’26, information systems—received the inaugural awards for their work in affordable health monitoring and wheelchair accessibility, respectively.
