I recently reread Warmth Disperses and Time Passes: The History of Heat by Hans Christian von Baeyer As a popular book, it provides a beautiful and enthralling account of the discovery of the first and second laws of thermodynamics. The book is a great companion to teaching and learning thermodynamics and statistical mechanics. The narrative is unified by the puzzle of Maxwell's demon.
