Abstract This research proposes an enhanced approach to analyzing input parameters with greater precision and suitability, facilitating better estimation of scour hole sizes under submarine pipelines. Field data from three pipelines in the Rong Field offshore southern Vietnam ( RC1-RP2 , RP3-RP2 , and RCDM-RC4 ) were used for validation. Two scenarios were examined: (1) waves and currents propagating in the same direction, and (2) waves and currents acting in both the same and different directions. Results show reasonable agreement between predicted and observed scour depths, with a maximum measured scour depth of about 0.4 m. The coefficient of determination ( R 2 ) ranges from 0.2729 - 0.3407 for Scenario 1 and 0.4394 - 0.5945 for Scenario 2, indicating that the multi-directional model improves prediction accuracy. The study confirms that incorporating directional wave–current effects enhances the reliability of scour assessment and provides a practical tool for offshore pipeline design and maintenance in Vietnamese conditions.
