Isolating perceptual conflict: a theoretical and methodological analysis of the Task-Irrelevant Paradigm

The conflict interference effect, exemplified by the Stroop effect, serves as a key indicator for studying conflict processing and cognitive control and is typically categorized into two conflict components within conflict classification theories. Perceptual conflict is constrained by task settings in typical paradigms, making precise detection challenging. This article reviews the literature on perceptual conflict, proposes the Task-Irrelevant Paradigm (TIP) as an experimental strategy to indep
