Two readings press on any statement of the differentia of the who-category: ownness can be heard either as a transcendental condition of appearing or as a depth beyond predication. This study argues against both readings through Kant’s muß … begleiten können at B131–132. It interprets the relation between the Ich denke and the phenomenon as title-holding rather than causal or constitutive, and tests a four-part specification of substitutive reference against the passage. The argument acknowledges Schürmann’s reading of apperception as a focal term while distinguishing his active reading of the modal from the proposed title reading. It develops two consequences: a warrant structure yields a bivalence, titled or nothing for me, rather than a plurality of ways of being; and the thing in itself is a residue the architecture requires but cannot describe. The proposed distinction between grounding and title-holding is tested against contemporary work on ontological dependence.
