Today I have another mini reviews post wherein I write a one paragraph review of books that I’ve read and don’t feel like writing a full review for whatever reason. This post covers three books that I read last fall that all loosely fall within the theme of politics and truth. Money, Lies, and God: Inside the Movement to Destroy American Democracy by Katherine Stewart (2025, Bloomsbury Publishing) This was one of the books that I most looked forward to reading last year. One of the book clubs I participate in chose it and was excited to read and discuss. Unfortunately I didn’t love the book. I wanted to love it. The topic is of great interest to me but the reporting was anything but objective. Of course I expect a certain degree of perspective in books like these — the author clearly has a position — but It is framed more as reporting of a movement, yet was filled with hyperbolic language. Much of the book was reports of her visits to MAGA events but I felt that it never really came together as a cohesive story.
