Sedimentation in river basins is a crucial process that impacts water quality, river morphology, and natural resource management, especially during flood events. This article holistically analyzes the sedimented areas in the Inhanombe River Basin, located in southern Mozambique, highlighting the application of the SWAT (Soil and Water Assessment Tool) and SDR (Sediment Delivery Ratio) models. Physiographic, hydrological, and land use/land cover aspects influencing hydrosedimentological processes in the basin are discussed. The SWAT model is presented as an effective tool for simulating sediment production and transport, while the SDR model is used to estimate the fraction of sediments that effectively reach water bodies. The article highlights the challenges related to model calibration, spatial variability of data, and the complexity of environmental processes, suggesting the integration of high-resolution data, remote sensing, and continuous monitoring as strategies to improve the accuracy of the simulations. The combination of SWAT and SDR models provides an integrated approach to identifying critical sedimentation areas, contributing to the planning and sustainable management of water resources in the region.
