Library leadership plays a pivotal role in shaping the conditions under which their employees adapt and recover morale following a migration between library systems. Drawing from 37 interviews with library workers, including paraprofessional staff, librarians, and managers, this study identifies three major areas for consideration: provision of sufficient time to migrate and adapt, empowering employees without over-burdening them, and proactive attention to staffing levels. From these, six concrete recommendations are drawn for administrators and middle managers planning a system migration. While initial drops in workplace morale following a library system migration may be impossible to avoid, a well-executed migration with engaged leadership can provide new opportunities for staff development and even lead to higher-morale conditions for those involved.
