Disruptive innovations, particularly digital and process innovations, are increasingly being adopted in healthcare systems to improve efficiency and service delivery. However, evidence on how these innovations are implemented and perceived by healthcare workers in resource-constrained settings remains limited. Understanding the enablers and barriers to their implementation is important for improving healthcare delivery and patient experience in low- and middle-income countries. This study explored healthcare workers’ perceptions of disruptive innovations implemented in a private multispecialty healthcare facility in Ghana, including their perceived effects on patient waiting time and the factors that enabled or hindered their implementation. This study employed a qualitative descriptive design using in-depth interviews with six healthcare workers. Participants were purposively selected based on their roles and involvement in the implementation or use of innovations within the facility. Interviews were audio-recorded, transcribed verbatim, and analysed thematically using a hybrid approach that combined deductive coding based on a disruptive innovation framework with inductive identification of subthemes related to enablers, barriers, and perceived effects. Healthcare workers identified several innovations implemented within the facility, including electronic medical records, digital imaging systems, queue management system, telemedicine services, and web-based communication systems. Process innovations were the most frequently highlighted and were perceived to improve workflow efficiency and care coordination. Participants reported that these innovations contributed to reduced patient waiting time and improved service delivery processes. Key enablers included strong leadership support, structured project implementation systems, staff training, performance monitoring, and early stakeholder engagement. However, resistance to change among some patients and staff, particularly those with limited digital literacy, emerged as a key barrier during implementation. Healthcare workers perceived that process, product, and structural innovations were implemented within the facility, with process innovations playing the most prominent role in improving operational efficiency and reducing patient waiting time. Leadership commitment, structured implementation processes, and continuous training were identified as key enablers of successful adoption. Addressing resistance to change and strengthening digital literacy among staff and patients may further support the effective implementation of healthcare innovations in similar settings.
