Abstract The identity of the poorly known freshwater crab, Stoliczia chaseni (Roux, 1934) (Potamidae) from Cameron Highlands in central Peninsular Malaysia is clarified, and unlike congeners, the species shows distinct sexual dimorphism in the degree of granulation on the carapace and chelipeds as well as in the relative proportions of the ambulatory legs. A new species, S. hoggi sp. nov., which is morphologically similar to S. chaseni , is described from Fraser’s Hill further south, and can be distinguished by its diagnostic male first gonopod structure as well as overall stronger granulation patterns and proportionately more slender legs when specimens of similar sizes and sexes of the two species are compared.
