Lima: Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú. pp. 85-108. 2026In this chapter, the complementation between the social and phenomenological models of disability is explored, focusing on understanding the experiences of subjects with Alzheimer’s. By using a qualitative approach, this text describes the application of the phenomenological method to understand the perception through experiences of a subject with Alzheimer’s about people and the world around him. Autonomy is also discussed from moral and phenomenological perspectives, considering its individual and intersubjective dimensions. Lastly, the implications of the phenomenological model in the Brazilian legal context are analyzed, especially regarding legal capacities and supported decision-making for people with Alzheimer’s.
