C. D. Broad on Eternalism and Growing Block Theory 1913–1928
Abstract Over the course of his long career, Broad’s philosophy of time evolved, comprising three phases. Each phase is associated with a particular text. The first, associated with Broad’s 1921 encyclopaedia article “Time”, offers eternalism. The second phase, associated with Broad’s 1923 Scientific Thought, offers what may be the first English-language defence of growing block theory.
